Barton Springs Pool occupies a dammed section of Barton Creek within Zilker Park and receives water from springs connected with the Edwards Aquifer. The pool remains directly tied to the natural spring system running through Austin’s limestone geology.
Water maintains a relatively stable temperature and reveals differences in depth, colour and clarity. Walls, steps and lawns organise contact between public infrastructure and a natural watercourse.
Trees provide shade and connect the pool with the wider landscape of Zilker Park. The bottom and edges retain textures unlike those of a fully lined conventional pool.
