What to expect

A small-group day tour from Ljubljana to the UNESCO-listed Škocjan Caves and the Venetian coastal town of Piran, with a licensed local guide and no more than 8 guests. In a country with thousands of caves, Škocjan is the one we take our visiting friends to. You walk through an underground canyon carved by the Reka river, across a footbridge set almost 50 metres above the water, through halls large enough to hold a cathedral. It is UNESCO-listed, and far quieter than Slovenia's busier show caves, which is exactly why we chose it for this route. On the way to the coast, you stop at Socerb Castle, perched on the edge of the Karst plateau with the whole Gulf of Trieste below. Then Piran, five centuries of Venice in one compact old town: narrow lanes, Tartini Square, the little harbour, time for a seafood lunch by the water, and in the summer months, enough free time for a swim in the Adriatic. Your guide knows which konoba is worth your hour.

Before booking

  • Specialized infant seats are available
  • Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
  • Your attraction tickets are already reserved. You just pay at the ticket counter, by card or cash.
  • The tour departs with 2 or more guests booked, guaranteed. Only if you are the single remaining traveler on a date, for example after another group cancels late, we will offer you an alternative departure or a full refund.
  • Comfortable walking shoes recommended: the cave trail has steps and can be slippery.
  • Škocjan Caves stay at 9–12°C (48–54°F) year-round, bring a warm layer.
  • From June to October bring swimwear and a towel, there is free time for a swim in Piran.
  • The van has a microphone, so everyone hears the guide clearly.
