Bacab Eco Park
Bacab Eco Park occupies a broad tropical property in the Belize District where secondary woodland, palms, gardens, trails, open ground and water areas form a rural recreational landscape. The site is organised around vegetation and around facilities distributed between trees and clearings. Its identity comes from the combination of cultivated nature, damp environments, lightweight architecture and activity spaces set apart from the density of Belize City.
Arrival passes through abundant planting before reaching the principal buildings and open areas. Roads, entrances and parking zones sit among trees and hedges and avoid an approach dominated by large built surfaces. Broad roofs, galleries and open-sided structures respond to the tropical climate and create continual transitions between interior and exterior. The arrangement allows the landscape to remain visible from most parts of the property.
Palms form a particularly strong visual element. Tall trunks and moving crowns appear beside gardens, paths and water and cast changing shadow. Other trees provide denser canopies, spreading roots and shelter for birds and insects. The combination of ornamental planting and local vegetation creates several layers of height and texture and makes the open ground feel connected with the surrounding rural environment.
Water areas introduce horizontal surfaces within the green mass. Pools, paved edges and shaded zones reflect sky, palms and buildings. Water changes the light and adds movement through ripples, jets and activity on the surface. Filtration and circulation systems remain largely outside the principal view but support the stable appearance and operation of these areas. Their technical presence is integrated into service zones and planting.

Beneath the canopy, the ground is darker and cooler; in clearings, sun intensifies colour and exposes the breadth of lawns. Fallen leaves, roots and small irregularities show that the property develops across tropical ground rather than a completely paved platform. These transitions help define a sequence of environments instead of one continuous recreational surface.
Birds, butterflies, lizards and other animals use trees, flowers and damp areas. Their movement and calls add another layer to the managed landscape. The relationship between dense vegetation and open clearings creates shelter, edges and feeding areas for species adapted to rural and garden environments. The park therefore contains a modest ecological dimension alongside its recreational functions.
Activity areas are distributed without removing the planted structure. Lawns, recreational surfaces, gathering spaces and pools occupy clearings separated by trees and paths. This arrangement makes the park feel like a sequence of environments rather than a single-purpose facility. Sound shifts between water, leaves, birds and human activity according to the sector, while vegetation partly screens one area from another.
Tropical rain transforms the ensemble. Paving and trunks darken, leaves become glossy and drainage directs water towards lower ground. After rainfall, humidity intensifies scent and colour and makes the differences between buildings, lawns and forest soil more visible. Pruning, cleaning and management of edges keep paths, clearings and planted masses legible within a landscape that grows rapidly.
